Four vie for three seats on Mark Twain Union Elementary district board Copperopolis Elementary has approximately 300 students in grades kindergarten through six. Mark Twain Elementary has approximately 545 students in grades kindergarten through eight. Diane Bateman, incumbent Age: 62 Occupation: Realtor since 1988 Diane Bateman has lived in Angels Camp since 1993, and is currently serving her third term on the Mark Twain school board. Batemans daughter went through the Mark Twain school system and she hopes her granddaughter will as well. Bateman said she has always enjoyed being in touch with the schools. We have two really wonderful schools, we have a management team that is just outstanding, and we are very cautious with our budget, she said. Keeping a balanced budget and creating good school policies are Batemans main priorities. Bateman recently used her real estate expertise to help Mark Twain Elementary acquire land for more parking. Bateman also sits on the boards negotiation team, where she is championing a pay raise for the districts teachers.
